I want to clear up a few misconceptions about reposts.

I often get asked “how do I get more reposts” by budding creators.

They know that it is important for building an audience - more reposts = more people see your content - but they misunderstand why people actually hit that repost button.

Most people think reposts just happen when content is “good enough”.

Wrong.

People don't just repost good content.

They repost content that makes them look smart, helpful, virtuous or ahead of the curve.

A detailed case study might get a few likes. But '5 lessons from closing a $100K deal in 7 days' is way more likely to get reposted.

The difference isn't quality. It's shareability.

When someone sees your post, they're subconsciously asking: "Will sharing this make me look good to my audience?"

If the answer isn't an immediate "yes," they just won’t.

The Shareability Framework

Here's how to create content that people are way more likely to repost:

1. Make People Look Like Experts

Give them frameworks, templates or contrarian takes they can share to help their network.

Instead of: "Leadership requires empathy and strategic thinking." Write: "7 questions great managers ask in every 1:1"

People repost practical tools because it positions them as helpful leaders to their audience.

I would say though, the bar for this is now higher - it has to be something the readers don’t see all the time.

You can also challenge common beliefs and misconceptions with a strong point of view.

People repost controversial or counterintuitive content because it makes them look like thought leaders.

Here are a few good examples:

2. Create Beautiful Visuals

People share things that look pretty and useful.

Infographics, simple checklists, and short carousels get reposted because they look valuable at a glance.

Add branding like your name and face so people know who you are as it spreads.

3. Make People Look Virtuous

Share content that lets people signal their values - mental health awareness, work-life balance, supporting others.

When someone reposts "Normalize taking mental health days," they're showing their network what they stand for.

4. Breaking news

Breaking news is shareable because it makes people who repost it look like insiders and experts.

5. Say something funny

People repost and share things that they think will make other people laugh.

Here are a few that might make you laugh:

Your Action Plan

So practically, how do you get more reposts?

  1. Go through the Saywhat (or any other) inspirational content database - filter for the last 3 months. Sort by most reposts. Pick a post topic that speaks to your niche.

  2. Create a post (with a visual) this week - try to use at least two of these five factors.

  3. Thank your reposters - Comment on their reposts to show appreciation. This builds relationships and encourages more sharing.

  4. Send DMs to people who engage - A quick "thanks for supporting. I’m here if you need anything" to your reposters strengthens your connection and keeps you top of mind.

Remember, the goal here isn't just engagement.

It's creating content so shareworthy that your audience becomes your distribution.

See you next time,

Will
